Utah Watkins

The Kicks Band is saddened to learn of the passing of our former saxophonist Utah Watkins.  Utah held down the baritone sax chair for a few years and also occasionally filled in on tenor.  He also was a regular in the KC Metro Big Band and the Friday Morning Band.  The Kansas City band community will miss him, both musically and personally.

Wrapping up 2017.

Our last scheduled event of 2017 is posted in the Coming Events section, but if you want us for your New Year’s Eve bash, you’d better hurry.  As of now, we’re still available, but the window of opportunity is quickly closing.

Swinging KC since 1987!

Welcome to our website!  We’re the Kicks Band.  Founded in Bonner Springs, KS, in 1987 by Ross Woolf and the late Bill Wilhm, we’re celebrating our 30th year keeping the Kansas City Big Band tradition alive.  You’ll hear your traditional big band favorites and maybe some things a bit different.

The band features people from all stations of life, linked together by their passion for the sound of the big bands.

We have many events coming up.  We’ll be at the Kansas City Kansas Community College Jazz Cabaret on March 23; Jazz Vespers on April 9; Johnny Cascone’s Italian Restaurant on April 17.  We’ll see you there!

New Site–Now Live!

Welcome to the website for The Kicks Band, a big-band swinging in the Kansas City tradition since 1987.

The newly revised website should be more functional than the old and easier to update.

Click on the MENU button on the upper right of the page to find links to our Calendar and other goodies.

And remember to subscribe to our email list.  The easiest way to keep up with our happenings.
